Comment:
Blastocystis hominis - vacuolar form has a central vacuole with 1 - 4 nuclei and 5 - 20 microns wide). This is the form found in culture or passed from the colon and was thought to possibly be the typical form but they are not the forms present in the colon. (EM by Deb Stenzel.) This is a low magnification micrograph showing variability in cell morphology of forms in culture. Central vacuole contents vary in appearance. (Boreham PFL and Stenzel DJ. 1993. Blastocystis in Humans and Animals. IN Advances in Parasitology. Vol 32. Acad Press. London)
